Help for your family.

If your child is under 18 and in cancer treatment, or finished treatment in the last six months, and money is tight, Support The Kid wants to help.

How we help

Each family gets a direct grant of $1,000–$10,000 and decides how to use it. Families have used it for:

  • Experimental cancer treatment
  • Travel to treatment
  • Meals and lodging

We can also connect you with community and business help.

Did you know?

Two in three adult survivors of childhood cancer work full-time.

Hospitals we work with

  • Cohen Children's Medical Center
  • Memorial Sloan Kettering
  • Oklahoma Children's
  • Texas Children's Hospital
  • Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford
  • Rady Children's, San Diego
  • Mayo Clinic

Plus social workers and patient connections in California, New York and Texas.

Ask us for help

We're all volunteers with day jobs, so there isn't a staffed phone line. Send us a message and a volunteer will get back to you. A real person reads every message.

You can also call (631) 339-0304 and leave a message.

Your privacy

Your email goes to info@supportthekid.org and is read only by STK’s volunteer board. We have no staff. We use what you send only to look at a grant and to write back. We never sell it or pass it on, unless you ask us to talk to your child’s social worker.

Please don’t send medical records. A few lines about your child’s diagnosis and treatment is enough. A social worker can write for you.

We keep your emails for 12 months after our last reply, then delete them. Ask any time and we’ll delete them sooner. The grant records we keep for our Form 990 tax return hold amounts only, never medical details.

Email isn’t fully private, so send only what we need.

How it works

  1. Tell us

Email us, call and leave a message, or be referred by your hospital or social worker.

  2. We talk

A parent or guardian talks with one of us about your child’s treatment and where you are, and about your kid: favorite foods, hobbies, what they love.

  3. We help

With costs, and by connecting you with organizations and other families who’ve been there.
